In a significant political shift, at least 50 supporters of the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) have joined the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), a civic organization led by Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba. This development was confirmed during a function led by PLU’s Director of Mobilisation, Michael Mawanda. The new members, organized by Rashid Ssegugya, pledged allegiance to PLU, marking a notable change in their political allegiance.

Mawanda welcomed the new recruits, emphasizing the importance of respect and civility among members. He clarified that PLU is a non-partisan organization that supports President Museveni in the upcoming elections and has long-term ambitions to succeed the NRM. This move highlights the fluidity of Uganda’s political landscape ahead of the 2026 elections.
