Kampala, Uganda – The long-running dispute between Alex Muhangi and Bebe Cool has taken a legal turn, with both parties appearing at City Hall Court as the copyright infringement case officially begins.

Alex Muhangi, who runs Comedy Store Uganda, has vowed to stand his ground, declaring that he will not be intimidated by Bebe Cool’s accusations.
Background of the Conflict.
- In February 2025, Bebe Cool was booked for Comedy Store Uganda for UGX 6 million.
- On the night of the show, a UGX 5 million payment was made, but Bebe Cool refused to perform, citing an unpaid balance.
- The artist left the venue, sparking outrage among fans who had anticipated his set.
Days later, Bebe Cool filed a lawsuit, accusing Alex Muhangi of:
- Using his music and performances without permission.
- Earning revenue from his content through YouTube and other digital platforms.
Speaking to the media outside City Hall Court, Muhangi strongly refuted the allegations:
"I will not be intimidated. Bebe Cool is silent about the damage he caused us that night. We also have our lawyers and bigwigs, and I’m confident we will win this case."
Muhangi maintains that:
- Comedy Store Uganda does not monetize artists’ performances on YouTube.
- All artists performing at the show are briefed on content usage terms.
- Bebe Cool’s claims are an attempt to shift blame after breaching their agreement.
Entertainment lawyers suggest that this case could clarify intellectual property laws in Uganda’s music and events industry.
A verdict is expected in the coming weeks, and both camps remain firm in their positions.
