Kampala, Uganda – Balaam Barugahara, the State Minister for Gender, Labour, and Social Development, has announced a decisive stance against violence in the Ugandan music industry by imposing a six-month ban on promoting artists affiliated with gangs or involved in violent acts. This declaration comes amid escalating tensions between musicians Alien Skin and Pallaso, which culminated in violent confrontations during the recent Empele Festival.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Balaam expressed his concern over the rising gang violence and its detrimental impact on the music sector. He stated, “Gang violence is spiraling out of control, and it’s time for decisive action. Leaders and sponsors of these gangs must be held accountable for their destructive influence.” His call to action encourages fellow music promoters and event organizers to adopt similar measures to restore discipline within the industry.
The minister’s announcement reflects a growing frustration with ongoing conflicts among artists and highlights the need for a unified approach to promote peace and professionalism in Uganda’s entertainment scene.
