Opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, officially kicked off his 2026 presidential campaign in Jinja, the heart of the Busoga Sub-region in eastern Uganda. The launch event comes after months of strategic planning, with Bobi Wine unveiling his manifesto promising governance overhaul, the fight against corruption, and youth empowerment.

Weeks prior to the launch, Bobi Wine hosted prominent Buganda elders, led by former premier Joseph Mulwanyamuli Ssemwogerere, at his home in Magere. Although the elders did not issue a public statement, their private dinner and tacit endorsement were widely interpreted as a powerful symbol of unity between the influential Buganda Kingdom and the opposition’s ambitious campaign. This alliance reflects Bobi Wine’s effort to consolidate support across diverse cultural and political landscapes.
