Kampala, Uganda – Bobi Wine, the leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP) party, has expressed his openness to forming a coalition with other opposition parties for the upcoming 2026 general elections in Uganda. In a recent statement, he emphasized the necessity of a united front to effectively challenge the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, which has maintained a stronghold on Ugandan politics for decades.
Bobi Wine believes that a coalition would significantly enhance the opposition’s chances of securing victory against the NRM. He acknowledged the historical challenges faced by opposition coalitions in Uganda, including disagreements over leadership and resource allocation. Despite these potential hurdles, he remains optimistic about the possibility of successfully bringing together various opposition factions.
Discussions regarding the coalition are reportedly already underway, indicating that the opposition is actively strategizing ahead of the elections.
