Ugandan music has been abuzz after singer Sophie Nantongo publicly expressed her desire to challenge Catherine Kusasira to a musical battle. Nantongo, known for her soulful ballads and enduring popularity, stated she was ready to face Kusasira “whenever she is ready for the battle.” However, Kusasira, a veteran in the industry and a self-proclaimed powerhouse, responded with a bold counter-demand.

Speaking to media, Kusasira declared that a one-on-one battle with Nantongo would not be “fair,” suggesting instead that Nantongo should assemble a team of Uganda’s top female artists, including Spice Diana, Stecia Mayanja, Karole Kasita, Maureen Nantume, Winnie Nwagi, and Sheebah Karungi, to face her collectively. “If I am to battle with any female artist, I need to pile them as a bunch and take them on. Sophie should collect Maureen Nantume, Stecia Mayanja, Karole Kasita, Sheebah, Winnie Nwagi, and Spice Diana and come,” Kusasira insisted.
Kusasira’s response has sparked debate within the music fraternity, with some viewing her comments as a show of confidence, while others see it as dismissive of Nantongo’s individual talent. The proposed all-star battle, if it ever happens, would be a historic event in Uganda’s music industry.
