Charcoal Trade Crackdown Intensifies in Northern Uganda.

Lira, Uganda – In a significant move to enforce environmental protection, the Fifth Division Commander, Maj Gen Keith Katungi, has issued a stern warning to those involved in the illegal charcoal trade in Northern Uganda. This follows a Presidential Executive Order banning the trade.

During a meeting at the 103 Infantry Battalion headquarters, Maj Gen Katungi handed over ten vehicles impounded for transporting illegal charcoal. The event was attended by community leaders, truck owners, and transporters, highlighting the ongoing efforts to crack down on environmental violations.

Maj Gen Katungi emphasized the risks faced by those involved in the illegal trade and advised local leaders and transporters to comply with the Presidential directive. He encouraged the use of alternative energy sources like gas, which he described as more affordable and sustainable.
