EC Chairperson Simon Byabakama Sets Tight Access Rules for Uganda’s 2026 Presidential Nominations

As Uganda gears up for the formal nomination process kicking off the 2026 general election season, the Electoral Commission (EC) has issued strict guidelines on access and conduct. Justice Simon Byabakama, EC Chairperson, announced that the nominations will take place on September 23 and 24, 2025, at the EC headquarters in Lubowa, Wakiso District.

Byabakama urged all candidates to avoid mobilizing large processions to the nomination venue, specifying that only two persons per aspirant would be allowed entry. These measures aim to ensure an orderly and secure process amid heightened political tensions. The police have prepared a detailed traffic management plan including road diversions around Lubowa from 5:00 a.m. on the nomination days.
