Kampala, Uganda – Ugandan music superstar Eddy Kenzo, widely regarded as one of the country’s biggest music exports, has dismissed claims that he benefits from secret international connections, stating that he paved his own way to global success.
The Grammy-nominated artist gained international recognition in 2015 after the release of his viral hit “Sitya Loss,” which not only introduced the world to Ugandan music but also earned him the BET Viewers’ Choice International Act Award, making him the first Ugandan to win a BET award.

Despite his success, Kenzo has faced criticism from some local artists, particularly Big Eye, who has accused him of blocking fellow Ugandan musicians from accessing the international market. However, Kenzo has firmly denied these claims, asserting that his success was the result of hard work, research, and strategic improvements in production.
“No one connected me to the international level. I connected myself. I did enough research about the music that blew up all over the world. They need to look into themselves and find a way of making it better,” he explained in a recent interview.
As a Presidential Advisor on Creative Arts, Kenzo has urged Ugandan artists to focus on improving their music, enhancing production quality, and researching global music trends, rather than relying on connections to penetrate international markets.
With numerous global collaborations, world tours, and international accolades, Eddy Kenzo has proven that Ugandan music can break boundaries, inspiring a new generation of artists to aim for global success.
