Kampala, Uganda – Renowned musician and Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) President, Eddy Kenzo, has spoken out about fellow artist Kalifah Aganaga’s political aspirations following his nomination for the Kawempe North MP by-election.
Kalifah Aganaga, real name Sadat Mukiibi, was officially nominated on Wednesday, February 2025, to contest on the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) ticket in the race to replace the late Muhammad Ssegirinya, who passed away late last year.

During an interview with a local television station, Eddy Kenzo was asked about his views on Kalifah Aganaga’s entry into politics. The “Sitya Loss” hitmaker made it clear that he would not involve himself in the campaign but instead offered his prayers and blessings for his colleague.
“I can only offer him blessings and prayers in this bid. He is a man who loves politics and has tried numerous times, so I wish him well,” Kenzo said.
Kenzo’s remarks come at a time when several Ugandan artists are venturing into politics, following in the footsteps of Bobi Wine, who transitioned from music to become the leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP) and a former presidential candidate.
The Kawempe North parliamentary race has attracted multiple candidates, including:
- Elias Nalukoola (National Unity Platform – NUP)
- Farida Nambi (National Resistance Movement – NRM)
- Independent candidates
Aganaga faces an uphill battle, especially in a constituency where the late Ssegirinya enjoyed overwhelming support under the NUP banner. However, the singer-turned-politician believes that his deep connection with the youth and grassroots mobilization will work in his favor.
With campaigns set to begin soon, the political landscape in Kawempe North is expected to be highly competitive, as candidates strategize to win the seat.
