Ugandan music heavyweight Eddy Kenzo has been celebrated for his instrumental role in helping fellow artist Bruno K secure a historic legal victory against Black Market Records. The UGX 130 million court ruling not only compensates Bruno K for financial losses but also sends a strong message against exploitation in Uganda’s music industry.
Kenzo, who serves as the President of the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), took it upon himself to guide Bruno K through the legal process. He provided financial backing, introduced him to top-tier lawyers, and consistently spoke out against the injustices artists face in Uganda.

Bruno K publicly acknowledged Kenzo’s contributions in a social media post:
“Without Eddy Kenzo’s support, I would have been crushed by these so-called international record labels. He fought with me every step of the way. This win belongs to every Ugandan artist struggling for their rights.”
Kenzo has since called for reforms in the Ugandan music industry, advocating for a Musicians’ Legal Fund to help artists facing contractual disputes. He believes that Bruno K’s case should serve as a precedent to prevent future exploitation of Ugandan musicians.
“This is just the beginning. We need more laws protecting artists from unfair deals. I encourage all musicians to unite and fight for their intellectual property,” Bruno K said.
With this legal victory, Bruno K has reclaimed his rights to his music and promised to pursue further legal action to ensure all artists who were wronged by Black Market Records receive fair compensation.
