Qatar becomes the firs host nation in world cup history to lose the opening match after a 2:0 defeat against the dominant Ecuador at Al Bayt stadium.
Enner Valencia gave the visitors the lead in the 16th minute from a penalty spot after a foul from Qatar’s goal keeper Al sheeb. Valencia secured his brace by scoring a brilliant header in the 31 st minute to give them a 2-0 lead which was enough to earn the South Ameican team the 3points.
Qatar second fixture will be against Senegal on Friday, Nov 25and Ecuador will take on Netherlands the oranje boys.
