Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola masterminded a win over Chelsea for the second time in 72 hours, granting the Sky Blues safe passage to the FA Cup fourth round.

The Cityzens easy pass with a resounding 4-0 victory and dumping the visitors out at the third-round stage for the first time in 25 years. 

Algerian winger Ryan Mahrez opened the scouring with a stunning free-kick in the 23’min. Julián Álvarez stepped up to the spot afew minutes later after Kai Havertz handball was overturned into a penalty. Despite Kepa Arrizabalaga’s best efforts to psych out the World Cup winner, he snuck it in off the upright.

Chelsea manufactured the first shot at goal, with Mason Mount flashing his effort wide after a quick free-kickduring the second half. Kalidou Koulibaly’s clumsy challenge saw another penalty awarded won by Foden and blasted in by Mahrez recording his second goal for the evening.

Mahrez goals meant that he has scored four goals against the blues in their last three encounter. Chelsea’s result also meant that the Blues have failed to score against the Cityzens in their last five games. Their last goal was scored by Kai Havertz in the 2021 UEFA Champions League final.

City’s win means that they will face either Arsenal or Oxford united which is to take place on 9th monday.
