Kampala, Uganda – In a tragic incident on Masaka Road, former Daily Monitor security reporter Risdel Kasasira lost his life following a car accident while returning from Kashari in Mbarara District with his family. The accident occurred on January 1st, leaving many in shock within the media fraternity.
Michael Kananura, spokesperson for Traffic and Road Safety Police, confirmed that Kasasira died instantly in the crash. Fortunately, a woman and child who were also in the vehicle survived. It is believed that Kasasira’s wife was behind the wheel at the time of the incident.
Kasasira was known for his extensive reporting on security issues and conflicts affecting Uganda. His work included coverage of military operations against Al-Shabaab in Somalia and investigations into key political events within Uganda. Notably, he played a significant role in reporting on General Sejusa’s controversial letter that alleged plots against government officials.
The journalism community is mourning this significant loss, reflecting on Kasasira’s contributions to media and public discourse in Uganda. His untimely death serves as a reminder of road safety challenges faced by many Ugandans today.
