Frank Gashumba Labels Bobi Wine Uganda’s Greatest Comedian, Calls for Civility in Politics.

In a fiery appearance on Sanyuka TV, Frank Gashumba, Chairperson of the Council for Abavandimwe, made bold remarks criticizing Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine. Gashumba labeled Kyagulanyi “the greatest comedian in Uganda’s history” and accused him of turning political leadership into theatrics rather than focusing on substance.

Gashumba’s statements came in the wake of chaotic scenes during the burial of the late Kawempe North MP, Muhammad Ssegirinya, in Masaka. He condemned the disorder that marred the event, emphasizing the need for unity and decorum in Uganda’s political landscape. “Politics is not war,” he declared, urging political rivals to embrace civility, especially in Buganda, which he described as “the pinnacle of civilization.”

The outspoken commentator also criticized the burial organizers for poor management, noting that Ssegirinya’s mother and brother were barred from the funeral proceedings. “The send-off ceremony should have been managed by the family. Locking out his mother and brother was disrespectful and contrary to our cultural values,” Gashumba stated.

In his critique of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Gashumba referred to its members as “fool soldiers, not foot soldiers,” questioning their capabilities and approach to leadership. He pointed out that although Ssegirinya had supported Kyagulanyi, the burial was handled in a manner that disrespected both Muslim customs and traditional values.

Gashumba’s comments have reignited debates about political leadership, civility, and cultural practices in Uganda’s evolving political arena.
