Frank Gashumba Voices Concerns Over Decline of Ugandan Music Industry.

Kampala, Uganda – Media critic Frank Gashumba has expressed deep concerns about the current state of the Ugandan music industry, stating that it is in decline and requires immediate attention for recovery. Gashumba, known for his long-standing support of local artists, lamented that today’s musicians are producing substandard content rather than meaningful music. “Good music was once here, but that is no longer the case. The industry is in decline—we hardly hear meaningful music from Ugandan artists anymore,” he explained.

Gashumba’s criticism highlights a growing sentiment among music enthusiasts who feel that many artists are prioritizing commercial success over artistic integrity. He pointed out that some musicians release what he describes as “trash songs,” claiming they cater to fan demands. Despite these challenges, Gashumba believes that the music industry should continue to receive government funding, similar to other sectors, to help revitalize its potential.

In addition to his critiques, Gashumba shared his list of favorite artists, which includes Irene NamubiruJuliana KanyomoziKing SahaJose ChameleoneWinnie Nwagi, and the late Philly Bongole Lutaaya. He praised Lutaaya for his legendary contributions to the industry, emphasizing the need for artists to strive for quality and creativity.
