Kampala, Uganda – Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces and chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), has revealed plans for a significant reshuffle within the organization’s leadership. In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Muhoozi indicated that changes would affect the PLU’s central committee and the organization as a whole.
“In the next few days, I will announce changes in the Central Committee of PLU, and throughout the organisation,” Gen Muhoozi stated. The PLU was officially launched in February 2023 as a rebranding of the MK Movement, which had previously rallied support for Muhoozi’s presidential ambitions.

Over the past year, the PLU has established its structures and appointed leaders across various regions in Uganda. Despite Muhoozi’s earlier assertions that PLU would be a civic organization rather than a political one, his recent statements have sparked speculation about his intentions regarding political involvement.
His announcement comes on the heels of his declaration that he would not be a candidate for the presidency in 2026, urging PLU supporters to align with the National Resistance Movement (NRM). As discussions around political reform intensify ahead of the upcoming elections, Muhoozi’s reshuffle may signal a strategic shift within the NRM as he seeks to consolidate influence over the party.
