During the discussions, General Kainerugaba expressed his gratitude for General Maphwanya’s visit, emphasizing Uganda’s commitment to fostering regional and international defense partnerships. “Uganda is your home,” he assured the South African military chief, highlighting the strong bonds between the two nations.

The talks centered around mutual interests, particularly in areas such as military training and intelligence sharing, where both countries have collaborated for years. General Kainerugaba also shared his personal connection to South Africa, noting that he attended the Executive National Security Program at South Africa’s National Defense College in 2012.
The South African delegation included senior military leaders, underscoring Pretoria’s commitment to its defense relations with Uganda. Key figures from the Ugandan side included Lt. Gen. Kayanja Muhanga, Commander of Land Forces; Lt. Gen. Charles Okidi, Commander of the Air Force; and Maj. Gen. James Birungi, Chief of Defense Intelligence and Security.
