Community centre manager Jack Brabham expressed his disbelief at the destruction caused by the storm. Despite securing the marquee with additional straps due to weather predictions, it was not enough to withstand the storm’s intensity. “We were lost for words when we saw what happened,” he said.

Fortunately, local businesses and residents have stepped up to support one another. A smaller marquee has been loaned to ensure that the Christmas fair can still take place. Furthermore, a fundraising campaign has already raised over £2,000 towards acquiring a replacement marquee of similar size.
Brabham emphasized that despite this setback, the determination of Hersden’s residents to keep their holiday traditions alive is stronger than ever. “We were determined that the show would go on,” he affirmed. As preparations continue for this year’s Christmas fair, Hersden showcases how community resilience can shine through even in difficult circumstances.
