Honorable Muhammad Nsereko, the Kampala Central Member of Parliament and leader of the Ecological Party of Uganda (EPU), has sparked political buzz after hinting he could endorse National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, for the 2026 presidential elections. This disclosure came in an exclusive interview ahead of the close of the Electoral Commission nomination process when Nsereko confirmed he would choose Bobi Wine as his alternative if excluded from the ballot.

Nsereko’s shift marks a notable departure from his earlier criticisms of Bobi Wine and the NUP, where he had condemned internal party disputes and alleged corruption. Despite these differences, Nsereko framed his potential support as a strategic move to unify opposition against the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) and President Museveni. However, he explicitly ruled out support for Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) flag bearer Nathan Nandala Mafabi, citing unspoken reasons. Nsereko emphasized the primacy of his message and connection with the masses over party labels, warning that political exclusion by the establishment is designed to limit genuine challengers.
