Iganga’s Industrial Park Stalls Over Land Disputes.

Iganga District’s ambitious plan to establish an industrial park has hit a roadblock due to persistent land disputes and indecision over the project’s location. The park, which aims to manufacture spare parts for agricultural machinery, could potentially create employment opportunities for over 30,000 youths in the region. However, the local government’s inability to secure at least 200 acres of land has stalled the project, which was initially expected to commence in the previous financial year.

Minister Rebecca Kadaga

Minister Rebecca Kadaga emphasized the importance of resolving these land issues swiftly to allow the project to move forward. She noted that the district has proposed multiple locations, including Namungalwe and Nakalama, but none have been finalized. Kadaga urged district leaders to expedite the resolution of land disputes to unlock the economic potential of the industrial park.

The proposed industrial park is part of broader efforts to boost agricultural productivity in the Busoga sub-region by providing subsidized spare parts for tractors and other machinery. The project’s delay not only affects local employment opportunities but also hampers regional economic growth.
