Kampala, Uganda – The prestigious Ikon Awards 2025 has officially announced its nominees across 22 competitive categories, marking a significant expansion in recognition for Uganda’s film and creative sector. Hosted by media personalities Ethan Kavuma and Catherine Namugenyi, the nomination event was broadcast live on the Ikon Awards YouTube channel.

This year’s edition, scheduled for March 29, 2025, at Serena Hotel Kampala, introduces a key change: nominees in each category have increased from four to five, broadening opportunities to celebrate exceptional talent. Categories span Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor/Actress (Leading and Supporting Roles), Technical Awards (Cinematography, Sound, Costume Design), and emerging fields like Best Animation Film and Best Student Film.
Usama Mukwaya, Ikon Awards Producer, highlighted the shift: “This year, we’ve expanded nominee slots to champion inclusivity and diverse voices in Uganda’s film industry.” The awards also introduced four new honors: Best Emerging Film, Lifetime Achievement Award, African Ikon of the Year, and African Rising Star Award, cementing their pan-African vision.
