Mengo – As Uganda gears up for the 2026 general elections, the Justice Forum (JEEMA) and the Democratic Alliance (DA) convened a critical meeting to deliberate on electoral reforms and national dialogue. The discussions, held at JEEMA’s headquarters in Mengo, Kampala, sought to rally support from political, cultural, and religious institutions for a more transparent and democratic electoral process.
Addressing the gathering, JEEMA Secretary Muhammad Katerega reaffirmed the party’s commitment to working with like-minded groups to advocate for meaningful political reform. “We are ready to work with all change-seeking forces to create a political environment that promotes democracy and peaceful transitions of power,” Katerega stated.
Katerega also warned political actors opposed to dialogue, describing them as obstacles to progress. He urged dissenting voices to rethink their stance, emphasizing that unity among reform advocates is vital for success. “We cannot afford to have division among the forces advocating for change. Those against dialogue must rethink their position for the benefit of the country,” he added.
Democratic Alliance interim leader Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba praised JEEMA for its proactive approach and reiterated the urgency of implementing electoral reforms. He highlighted that collaboration among stakeholders is necessary to foster credible elections.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to initiating a national dialogue aimed at addressing reconciliation, national unity, and leadership transition. Stakeholders hope this dialogue will create a peaceful and inclusive political landscape leading up to the 2026 elections.
