Kabaka Takes Legal Action Against Lands Minister Over Kaazi Land Dispute.

Kampala, Uganda – The Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, has instructed his legal team to take the Minister of State for Lands, Dr. Sam Mayanja, to court over alleged unlawful interference in the ownership and management of the disputed Kaazi land. Buganda’s Attorney General, Christopher Bwanika, announced the Kingdom’s legal action following what he termed as Mayanja’s “contempt of court and disregard for the law.”

The disputed land, located on Block 273, Plot 5, has been at the center of controversy despite multiple legal rulings affirming the Kabaka’s ownership. According to Bwanika, Mayanja’s directives to deregister the Buganda Land Board (BLB) from managing Kabaka’s land are illegal and contradict previous court rulings. The Kingdom contends that such directives undermine the judiciary’s authority and threaten the integrity of land ownership structures in Uganda.

The Kabaka’s legal team is set to challenge Mayanja’s actions, including his public statements and his instructions to the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) regarding BLB’s status. “We have a solid case, backed by evidence and legal precedents,” said Buganda Land Board spokesperson Denis Bugaya. “For the first time in modern Buganda history, we are taking Mr. Sam Mayanja to court in his individual capacity for abuse of office and illegal directives.”
