Kampala Northern Bypass Maintenance Set to Disrupt Traffic for Six Months.

Kampala, Uganda – The Ministry of Works and Transport has announced the resumption of maintenance works on the Kampala Northern Bypass, specifically Phase One, which spans 21 kilometers. The maintenance is scheduled to commence on Saturday, December 28, and is expected to last for at least six months. This initiative is being carried out in collaboration with the Uganda Police Force and Stirling Civil Engineering Limited.

In a statement, Minister of Works and Transport Gen. Edward Katumba-Wamala highlighted the scope of the project, which will focus on sections of the bypass between the Kisaasi and Busega interchanges. The maintenance work involves removing old asphalt, processing the base, priming, and laying a new asphalt overlay. “The road works focus on sections of the Kampala Northern Bypass, especially between the Kisaasi and Busega interchanges,” Gen. Katumba-Wamala stated.

To ensure safety and efficiency during the maintenance period, sections of the affected carriageway will be fully closed, with traffic diverted to the opposite side. This diversion will be in place both day and night throughout the construction period. Despite having an alternative carriageway available, the minister advised road users to consider using alternative routes to minimize delays. “Road users are still advised to plan their journeys and use alternative routes off the Northern Bypass to avoid delays,” he added.

The ministry emphasized the importance of adhering to safety measures during this time. “We kindly request road users to exercise maximum caution and adhere to the traffic and safety measures in place to minimize travel inconvenience,” Gen. Katumba-Wamala urged.

These planned works are expected to enhance the durability and functionality of the bypass, ultimately ensuring safer and more efficient travel upon completion. Road users are encouraged to stay informed about traffic updates and cooperate with authorities throughout this period.
