Kawempe North By-Election Faces Concerns Over Selective Law Enforcement.

Kampala, Uganda – Candidates vying for the Kawempe North parliamentary seat have voiced serious concerns regarding what they perceive as selective enforcement of electoral laws by security agencies. This issue was brought to the forefront during a harmonization meeting held at the Electoral Commission (EC) offices in Kawempe on Friday, February 28, 2025, ahead of the by-election scheduled for March 13, 2025.

Nominated candidates for the Kawempe North By-election met to harmonise their campaign programmes ahead of the campaign period, which starts today, 28th February to 11th March 2025. T

Candidates like Henry Kasacca Mubiru (Democratic Party) emphasized the need for uniform application of electoral guidelines to all contenders, warning that any biased enforcement would render the guidelines void. Mahmood Mutazindwa, also known as Sweet Cake, accused some security officers of colluding with candidates to stage arrests for sympathy votes, further fueling distrust in the process. Musa Yiga, a candidate for councilor in Kazo-Angola, highlighted challenges due to limited space and numerous candidates, stressing the need for impartial law enforcement.
