The government-owned Kiira Motors Corporation (KMC) has officially requested an additional $143 million (approximately Shs500 billion) from President Museveni to fund the next phase of its vehicle manufacturing plant located in Jinja Industrial and Business Park. This appeal was conveyed by Minister of Finance Matia Kasaija on behalf of Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Dr. Monica Musenero during the commissioning ceremony of the plant.
President Museveni pledged full support, committing the requested funds to help the plant ramp up production capacity from the current 2,500 vehicles annually to 10,000 units per year. This expansion is aimed at meeting both domestic demand and growing regional markets, positioning the plant as a key driver of Uganda’s industrialization and innovation agenda.
