MOROCCO ELIMINATE PORTUGAL IN HISTORIC WIN.

Morocco's Amrabat celebrate

Morocco became the first ever African side to reach the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup, after sensationally beating Portugal 1-0 at the Al Thumama Stadium.

Portugal’s keeper Diogo Costa misjudged Yahia Attiyat Allah’s cross, failing to claim the high ball as Youssef En-Nesyri towered over him to nod into an empty net giving the Atlas Lions the lead.

Walid Regragui’s side were missing Bayern Munich’s right back Mazzroui, West Ham Nayef Aguerd and lost captain Roman Saiss who plays for English side Wolverhampton Wonderers.

But the team defended well with a lot of determination that frustrated the Portuguese attack. A Clean sheet meant Morocco has recorded seven clean sheets in eight games having the best defense in this world cup campaign.

Ronaldo came oof the bench in the 50th minute to equal the men’s all time appearance record of 196 in international matches but couldn’t help his side.

Three African sides had previously reached the quarter finals of the world cup but none had progressed any further until now.
