NRM Calls on Youth to Strengthen Party’s Grassroots Base.

As the National Resistance Movement (NRM) accelerates its membership registration and display exercise, Deputy Secretary General Rose Namayanja has issued a rallying call to Uganda’s youth, urging them to register as party members. The appeal was made during the flag-off of membership register kits to villages in Wakiso District on Monday.

Namayanja highlighted the significance of youth participation in strengthening the NRM’s grassroots base. “We need young people to join the NRM. This is the only way we shall remain strong and dominant, like other revolutionary political parties such as the ANC in South Africa and Chama Chama Pinduzi in Tanzania,” she said.

The deputy secretary general underscored the importance of the registration exercise, describing it as a critical step in preparing for the party’s primary elections. She handed over register books and other materials to registrars, cautioning them against corruption and political interference. “Any registrar who connives with politicians to tamper with the register will face legal action,” Namayanja warned.

Namayanja’s statements were reinforced by Wakiso District Chairman Abdul Kiyemba and Resident District Commissioner Justine Mbabazi, who urged registrars to act responsibly and ensure the timely delivery of registration kits. The exercise is set to conclude by Wednesday, ensuring all villages across Uganda receive the necessary materials.

The NRM aims to use this registration drive to solidify its presence at the grassroots level, engaging youth and new members to maintain its dominance in Uganda’s political landscape. The exercise is expected to set the stage for a smooth and transparent electoral process within the party.
