NUP Demands Arrest of Suspects in Mukono North Abductions.

Ssenyonyi made these remarks during a poignant prayer service held for Muhammad Kanatta, a NUP supporter who has been missing for four years since his abduction. The gathering was filled with grief as Kanatta’s family, including his children and relatives, mourned his absence. Ssenyonyi criticized the government for treating political opponents as adversaries and accused it of orchestrating enforced disappearances.

Opposition Leader Joel Ssenyonyi

He insisted that NUP would continue to demand accountability for all missing and imprisoned individuals, urging the government to clarify whether they are alive or dead and to disclose the locations of those allegedly buried. The emotional weight of Kanatta’s disappearance serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing tensions in Uganda’s political landscape.

Mukono North MP Abdallah Kiwanuka Mulimamayuni also voiced concerns about the lack of action against certain National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders in Mukono North, who are alleged to be key suspects in these abductions. “I know the person who spearheaded this, and the relevant authorities are not taking action,” he warned, pledging that those responsible would have to answer for their actions.
