NUP Endorses Elias Nalukoola as Flag Bearer for Kawempe North MP Seat.

The National Unity Platform (NUP) party has officially endorsed Elias Nalukoola, a prominent legal expert, as its flag bearer for the upcoming Kawempe North MP by-election. The announcement was made following weeks of rigorous vetting and evaluation, including a public debate, which determined that Nalukoola was the most qualified candidate for the position.

The chairperson of the NUP elections management committee, Mercy Walukaaba, confirmed the decision after Nalukoola emerged as the top candidate from a pool of ten contenders. He secured over seventy percent in the vetting process, solidifying his position as the preferred candidate.

In his first remarks after the endorsement, Nalukoola expressed his deep gratitude to the NUP for placing their trust in him and for offering him the opportunity to represent the party. He stressed his commitment to continuing the struggle for a better Uganda and expressed his determination to fight against what he described as “dictatorship.”

“This is not only an opportunity but also a challenge to serve and to continue the battle against dictatorship,” Nalukoola said, emphasizing his dedication to the cause. The Kawempe North MP by-election, scheduled for March 13, 2025, was prompted by the unfortunate passing of the late MP Muhammad Ssegirinya, who passed away in January after a long battle with illness.

Nalukoola’s endorsement by the NUP sets the stage for an intense by-election campaign as political parties gear up for a contest to fill the seat left vacant by the late Ssegirinya.
