Kampala, Uganda – Deputy Kampala Lord Mayor Doreen Nyanjura has demanded an independent medical examination for lawyer Eron Kiiza, who was recently detained and sentenced by the General Court Martial. Kiiza, known for representing opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye, was allegedly subjected to severe torture during his detention, leaving him with visible injuries and severe pain.
Nyanjura expressed grave concern for Kiiza’s health, noting that he should be treated in a well-equipped hospital rather than being held in a maximum-security prison. She highlighted the need for a private and trusted medical team to assess Kiiza’s condition, given reports of internal bleeding and severe bruising.
