Members of the 11th parliament have voted yes on a motion to censure the state minister for lands Persis Namuganza.
This follows a recommendation by the MP Mwine Mpaka led committee that recommended Namuganza be censured for her role in the Naguru-Nakawa land allocation and contempt of parliament.
This 11th parliament has 556 MPs. The censure motion needed only 265 yes’s to be carried and Namuganza be censured.
356 MPs in total voted. 3 abstained, 5 voted “NO” and 348 voted “YES”.
Namuganza’s political career has come to an end days after celebrating her latest academic achievement of a diploma in Law at IUIU university.
Earlier of December 2022, at least 200 legislators signed in support of a censure motion against Namuganza as a result of several charges formed against her including declining to appear before a committee constituted by parliament at the direction of deputy speaker Thomas Tayebwa to probe her condition and the merits of the censure motion.
However, Namuganza is to lose her cabinet position but will retain her seat in parliament as Bukono County in Namutumba district representative.
