Despite the large turnout of celebrities at his services, which has sparked controversy, Bugembe has faced criticism from some of his peers who accuse him of opening his church to “worldly people.” He noted that at first, he tried to ignore the criticism until it escalated to a point where some pastors actively encouraged congregants to leave his church. “I think I am a fisherman just like the Bible orders me to,” Bugembe stated, defending his mission to draw more souls to God.
Bugembe believes that inviting celebrities can help bridge the gap between the church and the community, allowing stars to share their faith journeys with their followers. He expressed admiration for individuals like Mama Fiina, whom he believes has a good heart and potential for accepting Jesus Christ. Despite the opposition, Pastor Bugembe remains committed to his vision of an inclusive church that welcomes all individuals, regardless of their background.
