In light of General Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s recent announcement of his departure from social media platform X, city pastor Martin Ssempa has called for clarity surrounding the circumstances of the exit. Ssempa’s inquiry comes following speculation that Muhoozi may have been banned from the platform rather than choosing to leave voluntarily.

On January 11, 2025, Muhoozi shared his reasons for departing, attributing it to his need to focus on his military duties with the UPDF and underscoring a divine calling. “However, the time has now come under the instructions and blessings of my Lord Jesus Christ to leave,” he stated. Despite this explanation, the pastor’s call for transparency reflects the growing concern among Ugandans regarding freedom of expression on social media.
Ssempa’s urgent quest for answers particularly highlights Muhoozi’s recent interactions with political opponents, including his inflammatory remarks directed at Bobi Wine, which included threats of violence. These comments have raised alarm regarding acceptable discourse on social platforms and generated discussions around accountability for public figures’ statements.
During his public address, Ssempa lamented that the absence of Muhoozi’s ‘Friday night banter’ would be felt by many, illustrating the general’s influence on Ugandan social media conversations. The pastor’s plea for clarity also underscores the importance of addressing the potential implications for political discourse following Muhoozi’s exit.
