Phiona Nyamutoro, Uganda’s State Minister for Energy and Minerals Development and current National Youth Member of Parliament, has officially announced her candidacy for the Nebbi District Woman Member of Parliament seat in the 2026 general elections. Nyamutoro took to her X account to share her aspirations, posting a campaign poster alongside a message celebrating Nebbi’s contribution to the nation and wishing mothers a happy Mother’s Day.
Her announcement sets up a competitive race against the incumbent Agnes Acibu, who currently holds the seat under the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party and has expressed interest in defending her position. Nyamutoro’s move comes as she is ineligible to seek re-election as National Youth MP due to term limits, prompting her to pursue this new political challenge.
