Kampala, Uganda – President Yoweri Museveni, the Chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), has urged party leaders and supporters to actively participate in the verification and updating of voters’ registers as part of preparations for the upcoming 2026 General Elections. In a letter dated January 7, 2025, addressed to members of the Central Executive Committee (CEC), National Executive Committee (NEC), and other NRM leaders, Museveni emphasized the critical importance of maintaining accurate voter records.
“The National Electoral Commission has announced the electoral roadmap for the General Elections, beginning with the Voters’ Registers’ verification and update,” Museveni noted, indicating that this exercise will take place from January 7 to January 10, 2025. He called on leaders to verify their names and those of their communities at polling stations to ensure their inclusion in the updated registers.

Mao highlighted the necessity of removing deceased individuals from the register and registering young people who have recently turned 18. He stressed that a credible and updated voters’ register is essential for a transparent electoral process and encouraged NRM leaders to mobilize communities during this crucial verification exercise.
This call for action comes as the Electoral Commission has adjusted its timeline for updating the national voters’ register, now set to run from January 20 to February 10, 2025. This adjustment aims to ensure all logistical preparations are complete, allowing every eligible citizen to participate effectively in the electoral process.
