President Museveni Mourns the Passing of Pope Francis, Honors Legacy of Spiritual Leadership.

Kampala, Uganda – President Yoweri Museveni has expressed profound sorrow following the death of His Holiness Pope Francis, extending heartfelt condolences to the global Catholic Church and the faithful worldwide. In an official statement released today, Museveni conveyed sympathy to Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican Secretary of State, and through him, to the entire Catholic community.

“I have received the news of the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis with profound sadness,” President Museveni said. “On behalf of the Government and the people of the Republic of Uganda, and on my own behalf, I extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences.”

Museveni praised Pope Francis for his influential role as a spiritual leader and theologian who revitalized the Catholic Church’s mission amid increasing secularism. He highlighted the Pope’s unwavering commitment to peace, social justice, compassion, and humility, qualities that inspired millions across the globe.

Further emphasizing Pope Francis’ dedication to interfaith dialogue, Museveni remarked, “His readiness and enthusiasm to engage with other faiths, such as Islam and Orthodox Christianity, made him a religious leader truly in the footsteps of Jesus, as shown in the parable of the Good Samaritan.”

President Museveni also conveyed Uganda’s solidarity with Catholics during this time of mourning and concluded with a prayer for the late Pontiff’s eternal repose. The Vatican is yet to announce official funeral arrangements for the late Pope, whose papacy began in 2013 and left a lasting spiritual legacy.
