President Tshisekedi Vows to Defend DRC Sovereignty Amid M23 Threat.

In a powerful address delivered on January 30, 2025, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) President Félix Tshisekedi condemned foreign interference and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to defending the nation’s sovereignty in light of the recent fall of Goma to M23 rebels. Speaking from Kinshasa, Tshisekedi accused Rwanda of violating international law and vowed a robust military response against both the M23 and their alleged Rwandan backers.

Tshisekedi called for national unity among Congolese citizens, urging them to rally behind the armed forces as they prepare for a coordinated response to the escalating conflict. He announced measures to strengthen security, support displaced populations, and redirect government resources toward military efforts. “A vigorous and coordinated response against these terrorists and their sponsors is underway,” he declared.

The President also paid tribute to Major General Peter Chirimwami Nkuba, who lost his life in the conflict, and emphasized the need for civilian support in the fight for sovereignty. He appealed to the international community to take a firmer stance against Rwanda’s actions, stating that their military presence poses a significant threat not only to DRC but to regional stability as well.
