Uganda is currently hosting an important gathering of African leaders for the African Union Extraordinary Summit on the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP). The summit, which began on January 9, 2025, at Speke Resort Munyonyo, aims to address critical issues related to enhancing agricultural development and ensuring food security across the continent.
Presidents Joào Lourenço of Angola and Taye Atske Selassie of Ethiopia have arrived to participate in this pivotal summit. President Lourenço was received by various dignitaries, including Uganda’s Minister of Defence, Jacob Oboth Oboth, and police officials upon his arrival at Entebbe International Airport.

On the other hand, President Selassie’s welcoming party featured key figures such as Uganda’s Permanent Representative to the AU, Ambassador Rebecca Amuge Otengo, and UPDF Air Force Chief of Staff, Brig. Gen. David Gonyi. The camaraderie displayed among delegates reflects the summit’s goal of fostering regional cooperation in agricultural development.
During the summit, participants will discuss the implementation of the Malabo Declaration, which stresses accountability in agricultural practices and acknowledges the interconnectedness of agriculture, rural development, and infrastructure. President Museveni of Uganda is also expected to attend the closing ceremony, further underscoring the significance of this gathering in advancing agricultural initiatives in Africa.
