Rachael Magoola Calls for Action Against Indecent Dressing in Music.

Rachael Magoola, the Bugweri Woman MP and celebrated singer with the Afrigo Band, has raised her voice against what she perceives as a decline in cultural values within Uganda's music industry, particularly regarding indecent dressing by musicians. Speaking at a breakfast meeting at Fairway Hotel in Kampala focused on addressing child sexual violence, Magoola emphasized the impact that public figures have on the younger generation.

During her address, Magoola expressed concern over the trend of artists performing in revealing outfits, stating that it has normalized indecency and adversely influenced youth behavior. “Musicians have resorted to indecent dressing with almost their private parts revealed while performing anywhere,” she remarked. She urged the Uganda Police to take action against such practices, arguing that they contribute to a broader cultural erosion.

Magoola pointed out that if young girls and women see public figures dressing provocatively, it becomes challenging for parents to instill traditional values in their children. “How will a parent stop a child from dressing decently if they see their mother dress the way they wish?” she questioned, highlighting the need for accountability among artists.

In her call for a return to traditional values, Magoola hopes to preserve Uganda’s cultural identity and protect societal norms from being eroded by modern trends. Her passionate plea has sparked discussions about the role of artists in shaping cultural perceptions and the responsibility they hold towards their audience.
