Kampala, Uganda – Muhammad Ssegirinya, affectionately known as “Mr. Update,” was a vibrant figure in Ugandan politics, serving as the Member of Parliament for Kawempe North. Born in 1988 in Butale, Kadugala, Masaka District, Ssegirinya’s life was marked by a journey from poverty to prominence.

Initially named Richard, he later adopted the name Muhammad after converting to Islam. Ssegirinya’s educational background includes a certificate in Urban Food Experience from the Netherlands, which he used to contest for the parliamentary seat. He first gained recognition through regular calls on Kampala-based radio talk shows and later became a social media sensation.
Ssegirinya served as a lord councilor for Kampala Capital City from 2016 to 2021 before winning the Kawempe North parliamentary seat in 2021 on the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket. His victory was a testament to his dedication to public service and his ability to connect with the people.
