Rose Nabwire Elected as MUBS’ Second Female Guild President.

In a historic election held on Tuesday, March 26, 2025, Makerere University Business School (MUBS) students overwhelmingly voted Rose Nabwire as their 28th Guild President, making her only the second female leader in the institution’s history.

Nabwire, who previously served as Vice Guild President, defeated six other candidates, securing a landslide victory with 2,255 votes. Her closest contender, Henry Lukwago, trailed behind with 1,242 votes, a gap of over 1,000 votes, demonstrating her strong support among the student body.

Nabwire’s victory marks a significant moment for gender representation at MUBS. She follows in the footsteps of Pasquine Acaka, a member of the Democratic Party (DP), who made history as the first female Guild President in 2013.

Despite MUBS’ non-partisan guild election policy, Nabwire is affiliated with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, a factor that may have contributed to her strong backing from the ruling establishment.

In her victory speech, Nabwire expressed deep gratitude to the student body:

"I am honored by your trust and promise to serve with dedication. Together, we will transform MUBS into a better institution for every student."

She also received congratulatory messages from NRM leaders and student supporters, with many hailing her as a symbol of female empowerment in university politics.

Her leadership term is expected to focus on student welfare, academic policies, and digital transformation, aligning with MUBS’ ongoing modernization agenda.
