Katuna Border The border post was abruptly closed on February 28, 2019 leading to a souring of relations between Uganda and Rwanda, is set to be temporarily reopened.
According to communication from Rwanda Revenue Authority, the border reopening is to enable heavy trucks do trials on the road.
“The management of Rwanda Revenue Authority is pleased to inform the general public that heavy trucks are allowed to provisionally cross Gatuna OSBP between 10th and 22nd June in order to facilitate these trial activities as requested by RTDA,” notes the communication dated June 7 and signed by Pascal Bizimana Ruganintwali, the commissioner General of Rwanda Revenue Authority.
The tax body however, doesn’t indicate when it hopes to fully reopen the border point.
Until this morning, trucks have been using the Mirama Hills and Cyanika border crossing points.
Nelson Nshangabasheija the Katuna Town Council LC3 Chairman welcomed the news of reopening Katuna border.
He said he hopes business along the Katuna – Kigali road will resume and normalize as people have been suffering since February.
