On August 22, 2025, at Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, co-host Uganda was eliminated from the ongoing CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) after a hard-fought 1-0 loss to reigning champions Senegal. The crucial goal came in the 62nd minute from Oumar Ba, silencing the home crowd and marking a heartbreaking end to Uganda’s campaign.

Despite continuous attacking threats from Uganda’s Allan Okello, Reagan Mpande, and Abdu Karim Watambala, Senegal maintained disciplined defense to keep the scoreline intact at halftime and surged forward in the second half. A well-delivered cross by Libasse Gueye found Ba, whose shot found its way past Uganda’s goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa.

Uganda did not relent; substitutes Ivan Ahimbisibwe and Arnold Odong came close to equalizing but were thwarted by Senegal’s goalkeeper Marc Philips Arona Diof. Coach Souleymane Diallo of Senegal expressed pride in avenging a recent defeat to Uganda in the CECAFA 3-Nation tournament.
