Six Suspects Escape from Obongi Police Station Amid Allegations of Negligence.

Obongi, Uganda – In a concerning incident, six suspects escaped from Obongi Police Station on Monday after overpowering a police officer who had opened their cell for bathing. The police spokesperson for the North West Nile Region, Superintendent Ignatius Dragudu, confirmed the escape, stating that the suspects exploited manpower shortages to facilitate their getaway.

According to SP Dragudu, the suspects, primarily youths from neighboring Yumbe District, pushed the officer aside during the incident. Despite the officer firing shots into the air in an attempt to deter their escape, all six suspects fled the scene. They were detained on charges including malicious damage to property, housebreaking, and theft.

A manhunt is currently underway to recapture the escaped suspects. However, Obongi Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka has expressed a lack of confidence in the police force, accusing them of negligence and complicity in the escape. He noted that this marks the third time suspects have escaped from lawful custody in just three months.

The article raises significant concerns about the management of Obongi Police Station and the broader implications for public safety in the region.
