In a significant move for Tanzania’s political landscape, the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party has officially endorsed President Samia Suluhu Hassan as its candidate for the Union Government in the 2025 General Election. Additionally, Dr. Hussein Mwinyi, the current President of Zanzibar, was endorsed as the party’s candidate for the Zanzibar presidency. The unanimous decision was made during an extraordinary meeting attended by over 1,900 CCM members.

The resolution was announced by Ng’wasi Kamani, a member of the party’s extraordinary meeting, and later shared by CCM on social media. The endorsement of President Samia, the incumbent and the National Chairperson of CCM, alongside Dr. Mwinyi, marks a significant political step for the ruling party. CCM also confirmed Emmanuel Nchimbi as Samia’s running mate for the upcoming elections.

This high-level meeting, which featured key party officials, was addressed by former President Jakaya Kikwete, who expressed his full support for the endorsement of both Samia and Mwinyi. Kikwete emphasized that the decision was the right one, citing the accomplishments of both leaders during their respective administrations. He reassured the gathering that CCM’s victory in the 2025 General Election was certain, citing tangible improvements under the leadership of both the Sixth-Phase Government (led by Samia) and the Eighth-Phase Government (under Mwinyi).

The endorsement signals CCM’s intention to build on the progress made in both the Union and Zanzibar, with the party confident that their candidates’ leadership will continue to benefit Tanzanians in the years ahead.
