Besigye explained that he and his political ally, Obed Kamulegeya Lutale, were picked up from an apartment building in the Kilimani area of Nairobi, where they had gone to meet an undisclosed individual. After this meeting, Besigye was scheduled to attend a dinner with Kenyan opposition leader Martha Karua before speaking at her book launch the following day.
According to Besigye, security personnel who pretended to be Kenyans abducted them and transported them in a Kenyan-registered vehicle. “They drove us at breakneck speed with occasional stops as they sought clearance,” he recalled. The ordeal culminated in their arrival at the Malaba border at around 3 AM on November 17, where they were transferred into a Ugandan vehicle without undergoing standard immigration procedures.
Once across the border, Besigye and Lutale were taken directly to Makindye military barracks, where they were detained until their court appearance. Besigye expressed his indifference regarding his imprisonment, stating that there is little difference between being in Luzira prison and being outside given the current political climate.
