The ministry of defence and Veterans Affairs of uganda has, in an official public document  REF: UPDF/INFO/A2O, proclaimed a fierce and destructive assault on gun robbers today.

This has followed an ambush on a Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) foot patrol in kikondo cell in Kapeka town council by two assailants armed with one AK47. The attack has happened today at 10:30 am. According to the document, it is reported that a UPDF soldier, RA/260979 Private Tufeyo Obed has been shot dead.

However, the late Private Tufeyo Obed’s colleagues fired back on target and killed all the two attackers and recovered the gun they had used in the attack. The UPDF has lost no weapon.

Yesterday, the criminals who had attacked the sentry along Ambercourt road in Gadaffi Barracks were put out of action in an intelligence led operation. It has also been disclosed in the document that the two SMG rifles which had been stolen were recovered yesterday. This attack had happened on the night of 17th  November 2022 in Jinja District in Eastern Uganda and one soldier was killed, Sgt Simon Peter Eyagu.

Incedents in which the thugs have attacked security stations have been rampant in the central region of Uganda and police attribute them to new rebel groups.

On 14th November thugs shot at Kensington luxury heights police post before taking off. A month ago, thugs attacked Busiika Police station in Luwero District where three police officers lost their lives and four guns were stolen.

Few days back a police guard foiled what could have turned out to be a deadly attack on Nakulabye police station in Lubaga Division of Kampala Distict. The guard was on watch at around 4am when he saw someone approaching the station holding something like a gun. He discharged several rounds to prevent the suspect from leaving his position but he abandoned the magazine of an AK47 with five bullets before taking off.

In the official document released today from the office of the defence spokesperson Brig General Felix Kulaigye, the UPDF and sister security forces have vowed deal with these criminal attempts with full force.
