Uganda’s fast-rising hip-hop sensation Bukenya BenRodgers, popularly known by his stage name Troy Mc, has earned double nominations at this year’s UG Hip Hop Awards 2025, cementing his place among the most promising rappers in the country’s thriving rap scene.

According to the official nomination lists released by the organizers, Troy Mc’s critically acclaimed single “Gunnuma” secured him spots in two highly competitive categories — Central Rapper of the Year and Lyricist of the Year.
In the Central Rapper of the Year category, Troy Mc competes alongside notable acts such as 207 (Badmin), Lwaté (Sicily), Sempapi (On My Wave), Pascal Kalyabuli (Mpulila Bulala ft Vudu Child), Abamanyi (Call Me Now ft Tikon Preezy & Pashkenz), St Maxi Mayne (Little Things Remix ft Vini Mercy), Vudu Child (Wanjuulo ft Drop Pin, Lany X & OG Stash) and Tucker HD (Just Left Ntinda).

Meanwhile, his nomination for Lyricist of the Year places him in a strong lineup featuring Uganda’s most respected wordsmiths — BLCKLYT (70 Proof), John Papa Smyl (Okiwulira), Lethal (Notes & Noise), Tucker HD (Just Left Ntinda), Eric T Pondiad (Guyiwa Ndusu), Montana Blingz (Rutasimbuka) and Rap Drawz (Who’s Hard & Who’s Not).

The nominations reflect Troy Mc’s lyrical depth, storytelling ability and steady rise within the Central region’s vibrant hip-hop community. His song Gunnuma, praised for its flow, punchlines and authenticity, has resonated deeply with both underground rap fans and mainstream listeners.
The UG Hip Hop Awards 2025 are set to take place on December 5, 2025, at the IUEA Auditorium, with Bond 7 Whisky as the official sponsor.
